Ripley's Unbelievable Stories For Guys: Ripley's Believe It Or Not!
One of my first dates with my husband was Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. It was the first time I remember seeing a Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum. I so wanted to go inside and explore. Someday, I am going to go back and take the kiddos. We love the "unusual". This week our palate for unusual has our noses in the new book, Ripley's Unbelievable Stories For Guys: Ripley's Believe It Or Not!! The kiddos and I aren't letting the title keep us out!
When it arrived, the kiddos were super excited. They have several Ripley's Believe It or Not! books and have spent hours looking at the pictures. They opened the cover, seeking the bizarre, only to discover that this picture has NO pictures. They were shocked! Dad said, "Believe It or Not!"
This book is a collection of stories that stand on their own but make the reader wonder if it's not a tall tale. It's Ripley's Believe It or Not! amplified by the story-telling rather than the pictures. One of our favorite stories is on page 72, where a man sells the Eiffel Tower as scrap metal, not once, but TWICE! It all happened beginning in 1925.
On page 73, we found interesting dot.com facts. This was interesting because once upon a time my husband lived in San Jose and worked in the dot.com era.
The book has a manly appeal with its black cover. A gray text lays elegantly against the black with words that spark interest: "Would you survive being sucked into a black hole? Einstein's brain lives on in 240 slices..." Four words: unbelievable. stories. for guys. are a chrome silver that captures light. It's all a great canvas for the metallic read signature of Ripley's Believe It or Not! With a hard cover and slightly larger than a standard paperback, this book looks great on the coffee table and even next to the bed.
Aside from the words "for guys" on the front cover, inside the book, there are a lot more clues that this book is geared toward guys. Trivia, lists, and stories that have Tim Taylor grunt attached.
