Happy Birthday, Cupcake! by Terry Border

Happy Birthday, Cupcake is a fun book. You may know the mastermind author behind this 32 page picture book--Terry Border. I first learned about Terry Border through the fun BuzzFeed article where he created scenes based on some of the most famous children's books. Border is also the creator of the photography site Bent Objects. But back to his newest project, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CUPCAKE! (Philomel / July 7, 2015 / Ages 5 – 8).

This is one of the most unique picture books I've seen. Border cleverly constructs scenes that keep readers engaged. His scenes are filled with funny details and delcious spreads that appealed not only to my children, but to me as well. The humorous imagery complements the text that has had us pulling this book off the shelf over and over again.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – Cupcake’s birthday! But how best to celebrate with all her friends. A boat party is risky, in case Soup loses his lunch. The beach is always fun in the summer, but what if Chocolate and Donut get a bit melty?
