 We love Ripley's Believe It Or Not! There are things out there that are shocking and leave you wondering what the heck! Ripley Publishing releases it's latest annual, Ripley's Believe It Or Not! Download the Weird. It's a collection of all-new, unbelievable stories across the globe.

The book was waiting for us when we returned from vacation and Li'l Man couldn't wait to open the cover. He loves the vibrant color photos--amazing in themselves, and we spend quality time reading the strange stories. Sometimes we have to look again and other times we flat out shutter. This annual is unlike any Ripley's publishing has released, there are OddScan logos, which are similar to QR codes, placed throughout the pages. Use your iPhone or Android with these codes and the book comes to life on the page!  The codes give exclusive bonus content, including videos and images, transporting us into the hidden world of Ripley's Believe It or Not! like never before! It's wicked fun!

 The thing I appreciate is that Ripley's still delivers to the fans who aren't using the OddScan Logos. Inside the cover are still remarkable stories, incredible pictures and the pages are literally packed with crazy facts, stories, lists and interviews.

We read about the world’s oddest couple: he swallows swords, hedge trimmers and umbrella handles while she hangs upside down and lifts lead weights by her hair! The Divine Miss M has been tallying up our family to see if we can compete with with the world's largest family (pg. 15). We learned why a California man has experienced more than 950 violent car crashes. We had to question the tourists risking life and limb to get their picture taken with an 18-foot-long crocodile! Wow!

I am loving the special pullout section that shares weird Titanic facts; features the incredible real-life story of the Elephant Man. A dramatic gatefold pullout features panoramic photos of the home of “Weird Steve,” where every room is crammed with thousands of strange curiosities—it’s impossible to look at just once! And this is just a small preview of the strange and unbelievable stories and photos within the book.

We winced at the Blade Runner (pg 153). We still can't determine why anyone would voluntarily scale a 94.6 foot high ladder built with 168 razor sharp rungs...in bare feet!

We'll just let you ponder this picture...we still are.

Happy Birthday, Cupcake! by Terry Border

  I received Happy Birthday, Cupcake in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own. Happy Birthday, Cupcake is a fun book. You may know the mastermind author behind this 32 page picture book-- Terry Border.  I first learned about Terry Border through the fun BuzzFeed article where he created scenes based on some of the most famous children's books. Border is also the creator of the photography site Bent Objects .  But back to his newest project,  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CUPCAKE! (Philomel / July 7, 2015 / Ages 5 – 8).   This is one of the most unique picture books I've seen. Border cleverly constructs scenes that keep readers engaged.
